From 2 December 2026, CloudTalk charges the Canadian sales taxes that apply to your subscription, based on your billing address. From the same date, your invoice also shows the Compliance and Administrative Cost Recovery Fee, a CloudTalk fee. In this guide, you’ll learn what they mean and how they are calculated.
Canadian Taxes and Fees FAQ
Which sales taxes will I pay?
It depends on your province:
Where a province requires it, a 9-1-1 fee also applies to telephone numbers. Each tax and fee shows as its own line on your invoice.
Can my business recover these taxes?
If your business is registered for GST/HST (and QST in Quebec), you can generally recover these taxes through your input tax credits. PST and RST are not recoverable. What is the Compliance and Administrative Cost Recovery Fee?
CloudTalk’s list prices are the same for customers worldwide. Serving customers in Canada brings costs that apply only there, and like many cloud phone providers in Canada and the United States, CloudTalk recovers part of them with a separate fee instead of raising prices for every customer. The fee is 11% of the software part of your subscription and shows as its own line on your invoice. It is a CloudTalk fee: it is not a tax, and no government requires it. Customers billed in the United States pay the same fee. It covers costs such as:- CRTC registration and filings
- 9-1-1 service
- Membership of the Commission for Complaints for Telecom-television Services (CCTS)
- Tax registrations and filings in each province
- Telephone number administration and carrier surcharges
Why do you ask for my tax registration numbers?
So we can show them on your invoices. Please send your GST/HST registration number, and your QST number if you are in Quebec, to [email protected]. Sharing them does not remove the tax: we charge it to all Canadian customers, and registered businesses recover it as described above. Is my organization tax exempt?
Not automatically. If your organization qualifies for an exemption, for example a purchase exempt under section 87 of the Indian Act, or a purchase for resale covered by a provincial PST number, send the supporting documentation to [email protected] and we apply it.Is CloudTalk pricing tax inclusive?
No. CloudTalk’s prices are the same for customers worldwide and exclude taxes and fees. Taxes follow the law where you are billed; the Compliance and Administrative Cost Recovery Fee is added as described above. How does CloudTalk know how much tax to charge?
We use your billing address, the tax rules of your province and the services you use. We consult external tax experts and use a specialized tax engine for the calculation. Customers billed in the United States: see US taxes, charges and fees.Need help or have a question? Reach out to [email protected] or [email protected].
