In this article, you'll learn how to use AI Composer to edit your existing Voice Agent in plain words, from rewriting the greeting to setting up transfers, and how to review each change before you save it.

What AI Composer does
AI Composer lets you change your Voice Agent by telling it what you want in plain words. Type a request like "Make the greeting warmer" and the Composer proposes the exact edit, which you review and save before anything changes.
Use it when you want to refine an agent you already have: rewrite the greeting, add a language, connect a booking skill, add a Knowledge Base file or set up a transfer to a human. You don't need to write prompts or edit the Advanced (JSON) view yourself.
To create a brand new agent, start from a template instead. AI Composer works on agents that already exist.
Before you start
You need a Voice Agent that already exists in your account. AI Composer opens on the agent's edit page, in the Form view, as a chat panel on the right.
To open it:
Go to VoiceAgents in the left menu.
Click the agent you want to change.
The AI Composer panel is on the right of the page.
Edit your agent with AI Composer
When you open an agent, AI Composer greets you and suggests a few next steps based on how the agent is set up, for example Add a booking skill or Add a Knowledge Base file.
Tell the Composer what you want. Type your request in the box at the bottom of the panel ("Ask the composer to change anything") and press send. You can also click one of the suggested next steps.
Answer any follow-up question. For some changes the Composer needs a detail from you. When you add a Transfer to Human, for example, it asks when calls should be transferred and to whom.
Wait while it works. The panel shows Thinking... while the Composer prepares the change.
Review the change. The Composer explains what it did and shows a change card with the value before and after. Check that it matches what you asked for.
Save or discard. A bar at the bottom of the page shows which section has unsaved changes. Click Save changes to apply them to your agent, or Discard to drop them.
Test the agent. Click Test VoiceAgent and make a test call to hear the change in action.
After each change, the Composer suggests what to do next, so you can keep refining the agent in the same conversation
Review each change
Every edit the Composer makes appears as a change card in the chat, so you always see exactly what will change before you save it.
A change card shows:
What changed, for example Greeting changed or Transfer to Human added.
Before: the current value, such as No transfer skill.
After: the new value, such as Transfer to Human · Support Team.
If a change isn't right, don't save it. Click Discard, or tell the Composer what to fix ("Transfer to the Sales team instead") and review the new card.
If the Composer can only complete part of a request, it tells you which parts it applied and which one didn't go through, with a suggestion for what to do next. For example, if a voice you asked for isn't available, it applies the rest of your setup and asks you to pick the voice manually.
What AI Composer can change
AI Composer can change anything you'd find in your agent's Form and Advanced view, and nothing outside it. That includes the agent's greeting, goal and instructions, languages, voice, scenarios, skills and Knowledge Base files.
What you want | Try asking |
A friendlier first impression | "Make the greeting warmer and mention our company name" |
Serve more callers | "Add Spanish as a second language" |
Hand off tricky calls | "When the caller mentions an emergency, transfer to the Support team" |
Book appointments on the call | "Add a booking skill" |
Answer product questions | "Add a Knowledge Base file" |
A different sound | "Switch to a calmer female voice" |
AI Composer can't:
Create a new agent from scratch. Start from a template, then refine it with the Composer.
Change settings that aren't in the Form or Advanced tab.
Save changes without you. Nothing reaches your live agent until you click Save changes.
FAQ
Is my conversation with the Composer saved? No. The conversation starts fresh each time you open the agent. If you leave the page, CloudTalk asks you to confirm first, because the chat history is cleared. Changes you already saved stay on the agent.
Does the Composer change my live agent right away? No. Its edits wait as unsaved changes until you click Save changes. Click Discard to drop them.
Can I still edit fields myself? Yes. You can edit any field in the Form or Advanced view at any time, before or after using the Composer.
How do I check a change worked? Click Test VoiceAgent and place a test call after you save.
