This guide helps diagnose situations where the CloudTalk desktop app closes on its own, during login, while starting a campaign, or in the middle of a call.

User level: Agent, Admin, Supervisor

Symptoms

  • The app closes without warning while you're logging in.

  • The app shuts down when you try to start or join a campaign.

  • The app closes during an active call and disconnects it.

  • The app disappears from the taskbar or dock with no error message.

  • The app crashes repeatedly on one machine but works fine for other team members.

Root Causes and How to Fix Them

⚠️ The device or operating system is not supported

The CloudTalk desktop app requires a supported version of Windows or macOS. The following are no longer supported and will not receive updates:

  • Windows 7

  • Windows 8 and 8.1

  • All 32-bit versions of Windows

  • macOS 10.13, 10.14, 10.15

On these systems the app may appear but never load, show a blank screen, freeze, or close unexpectedly.

How to fix it

Use one of the supported systems:

  • Windows 10 or Windows 11

  • macOS 11 or later

If the device cannot be updated, use CloudTalk in a supported browser instead.

⚠️ Corrupted installation

A corrupted installation is a common cause of crashes, so a clean reinstall is a good first step (though it won't resolve every case).

How to fix it

  1. Fully quit CloudTalk (right-click the tray icon, then Quit).

  2. Uninstall the app using your operating system's standard uninstall method.

  3. Download the latest version from cloudtalk.io/download-app

  4. Install and log in again.

⚠️ Graphics or display driver conflict (Windows, possible cause)

On some Windows machines, a conflict between the app's graphics rendering and the system's display driver can cause the app to close silently.

How to fix it

  • Make sure your graphics drivers are up to date (check Windows Update or your GPU manufacturer's website).

  • Try connecting an external monitor or changing your display scaling settings, then relaunch the app.

⚠️ Low system resources (possible cause)

If your machine is low on memory or the CPU is under heavy load, the operating system may force the app to close.

How to fix it

  • Close other applications before launching CloudTalk.

  • Restart your computer and try again.

⚠️ Antivirus or security software interference (possible cause)

Some antivirus or endpoint-security tools block parts of the app's startup process.

How to fix it

  • Temporarily disable your antivirus and try launching CloudTalk.

  • If the app stays open, add CloudTalk to your antivirus's allow list and re-enable protection.

⚠️ Stale session or cache

Sometimes the app exists and is up to date, but the application session hasn't refreshed correctly.

How to fix it

  1. Log out of the CloudTalk app.

  2. Close it completely.

  3. Open the app again and log in.

Collecting crash logs for support

If the app keeps closing after the steps above, crash logs help our team find the cause. Collect them before contacting support.

macOS

  1. Open Finder, click Go in the menu bar, then Go to Folder.

  2. Type ~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/ and press Enter.

  3. Look for files with "CloudTalk" in the name, created around the time of the crash, and attach them to your ticket.

If that folder has no CloudTalk files (some crashes don't generate a report there), use Console instead:

  1. Open Console (Applications, then Utilities, then Console).

  2. Reproduce the crash if you can.

  3. Find the CloudTalk-related entries from the moment the app closed, and export them.

  4. Attach the exported log to your ticket.

Windows

  1. Press the Windows key, type Event Viewer, and open it.

  2. Go to Windows Logs, then Application.

  3. Filter by the time of the crash and look for Error-level entries mentioning "CloudTalk."

  4. Right-click the entry, choose Save Selected Events, and attach the file to your ticket.

If Event Viewer shows nothing relevant, check %LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps for any .dmp files created around the time of the crash.

When to Contact Support

If the app still closes after the checks above, contact CloudTalk Support and include:

  • The email address of the affected user

  • Your operating system and version

  • Your CloudTalk app version (shown in the app menu)

  • Exactly when the crash happens (for example, "immediately after entering my password", "when I click Start Campaign", or "during active calls")

  • Whether other agents on the account are affected

  • The crash logs collected above, or the Console / Event Viewer export if no crash file was generated

  • Whether the app worked at any time in the past
