# Copper Data Sync

> Set up integrated Copper to merge contacts and information through the CloudTalk interface

> [!NOTE]
>
> In this article you will learn how Copper contacts, opportunities, calls, and SMS messages sync with CloudTalk.

**User level:** Admin, Agent, Supervisor

***

> [!WARNING]
>
> **Ready to configure the CloudTalk + Copper integration?**\
> Follow the step-by-step instructions in our [Configure Copper](https://help.cloudtalk.io/en/articles/5639577-configure-copper.md) guide.

## Contacts + Persons

Your Copper contacts will be imported into CloudTalk during initial synchronization. From there, synchronization runs periodically to check for and update changes on either side. Copper contacts will also be created or updated when a new CloudTalk contact is added or changed.

> [!NOTE]
>
> **[Contact merging](https://help.cloudtalk.io/en/articles/5639498-contact-merging.md) occurs in CloudTalk when** multiple Copper contacts have the same phone number, email address, or name.

In Copper, contact updates replace the existing name as well as all phone numbers and email addresses for the Copper person.

## Calls

Phone call activities are created in Copper for CloudTalk calls. These activities become linked to their Copper person, company, and all opportunities.

Within integration settings, admin can choose a **Fallback Activity Owner** to assign missed calls and calls coming from a CloudTalk agent who is not a Copper user. Admin can also limit which calls get exported by assigning specific CloudTalk numbers in the *Connected Numbers* section within the [integration configuration](https://help.cloudtalk.io/en/articles/5639069-configure-activecampaign.md).

## SMS

Tasks are created in Copper for CloudTalk SMS messages. These tasks become linked to their Copper person, company, and all opportunities.

Within integration settings, admin can choose a **Fallback Activity Owner** to assign SMS messages coming from a CloudTalk agent who is not a Copper user. Admin can also limit which SMS messages get exported by assigning specific CloudTalk numbers in the *Connected Numbers for SMS* section within the [integration configuration](https://help.cloudtalk.io/en/articles/5639069-configure-activecampaign.md).

    </tr>
  </tbody>
</table>

> [!TIP]
>
> **Calls from unassociated numbers**
>
> When a call comes from a phone number that does not match any existing contact in Copper, CloudTalk does not automatically create a new contact for it. The call is only exported when it can be linked to a known contact.
